School-record 46 WWU athletes earn DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards
Aug. 14, 2012 BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A school-record 46 Western Washington University student-athletes have been named recipients of the 2011-12 Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT. The Vikings have bettered their total each year since the program was initiated in 2008. They had 20 the first year, followed by 22 in 2009, 30 in 2010 and 39 in 2011. The DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. To receive the honor, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have completed a minimum of two years (six quarters or four semesters) of college level work, and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year. Leading the Vikings were four student-athletes with GPAs of 3.90 and above. They included Trevor Robinson (So., Seattle/Nathan Hale), men's cross country and track & field, 3.98, Environmental Studies; Chip Jackson (Sr., Shoreline/Shorewood), men's cross country and track & field, 3.93, Mathematics; Megan Northey (Sr., Brier/King's), women's rowing, 3.91, Kinesiology: Pre-Physical Therapy and Eric Brill (Sr., Kent/Kentwood), men's cross country and track & field, 3.90, English and secondary education.
