Vikings No.14 nationally in all-sports standings following fall season

Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Rankings Get Acrobat Reader

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University is ranked No.14 nationally in the 2012-13 Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings following completion of seven fall sports.

The Vikings have a total of 167 points, just six shy of a top 10 ranking. They tied for ninth in women's soccer (64), tied for 17th in volleyball (50) and placed 21st in men's cross country (53).

WWU is the top Great Northwest Athletic Conference school, with Alaska Anchorage 17th (158.5) and Seattle Pacific 31st (132), and ranks third in the West Region.

Last year, the Vikings placed 13th nationally among over 300 DII schools. It was their fourth straight Top 15 finish. They finished sixth in 2009-10, seventh in 2010-11 and 10th in 2008-09.

WWU has had nine straight top 50 national finishes and been among the top 100 in each of its first 14 seasons as a NCAA II member.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup is a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's NCAA finish in up to 14 sports - seven women's and seven men's.
