WWU Athletic Department seeks Marketing Interns


  • WWU Athletics Special Events Internship (Paid)

    Western Washington University Department of Athletics is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of WWU Athletics Special Events Intern. This position will help perform, plan and coordinate special events. These events will be varied to off-site and on-campus events hosted by the WWU Athletics. This position will perform various tasks related to special events planning, set-up and assist with each event to ensure that each event runs smoothly and represents the highest quality of Western Athletics.

    Assistance in the development, planning and implementation of specific pieces of WWU Athletic events, which include but are not limited to: WWU Legacy Event, Coaches Receptions, Kick-off Dinners, Signing Parties, Viking Night (Athletic Fundraiser), etc. Planning and coordinating details of each of these events, which include selecting entertainment, site, menu, seating arrangements, invitations, RSVP's, reservations and itinerary and performing all other related duties as required.

    This candidate must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Must have excellent writing skills and strong communication skills. Must be flexible with hours/schedule and willing to work on various projects as needed. Must have ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Database/Site Manager Internship (Paid)

    Western Washington University Department of Athletics is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Database/Site Manager. This position will help to manage WWU Vikings official website (with regards to various athletic pages, Blue Crew, Marketing & Promotions, Calendar of event, Jr. Viking, etc.) Oversee the day-to-day operation/updates of these various pages on wwuvikings.com. Produce and post online video and photography of WWU Athletic sporting events plus any programs or outside events linked to WWU Athletics. Production/editing of photos for on-line use and a variety of other uses for the WWU Athletic Department. Develop and manage the official WWU Blue Crew (athletic student fan group) website. Create and maintain fan database for sending targeted e-mails. Develop and send Bullseye e-mails and targeted e-mail for adverting use. Assist with Facebook posting/announcements. Help in development of e-newsletter for WWU Athletic Department.

    Must possess strong writing and communication skills. Advanced computer skills required. Must have software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Illustrator. Knowledge of html and all website/programming skills.

    Perform all other related duties as required.

  • Viking Game-Day music/sound position (Paid)
    Would you like a front row seat to every home Western athletic event? Do you love music? The Western Washington University Athletic Department is looking for an enthusiastic music expert to play the music during the entire 2008-2009 home athletic events.

    This student must have an outgoing personality and able to work well with people. We are seeking someone who has an extensive background with music and someone who can think on their feet. They must know the flow of the game and know when to play the right music at the right time. Knowledge of sound system equipment is preferred but not required. Applicants must be available for all home sporting events (volleyball, football, mens/womens basketball).

  • 2008/2009 Western Washington University Athletic Internships
    Internships within Western Washington University Athletics offer a unique opportunity to work within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletic to promote Viking Athletics. The interns act as liaisons between the Department of Athletics and various campus and community groups, faculty, staff, and local corporate sponsors. Through the process of working with these groups, the interns for Western Athletics are involved in a number of exciting events and activities in and around the campus and throughout the community. The Athletic Department internships provide students with an invaluable experience that will benefit the pursuit of a career in any field. Serving as an intern within the Western Athletic Department is a unique opportunity to be directly involved in the game day activities at Viking sporting events including football, basketball, volleyball, softball, and soccer. These positions offered enable students to gain experience interacting face to face with a variety of people, thinking creatively, and solving problems quickly, all in a fun, professional environment.

    The Western Washington University Athletic Department considers their interns a vital component in the success of the overall department. The efforts and contributions of the interns are heavily depended upon; therefore, it is essential that all interns commit to the program for the entire 2008/2009 academic year. Each of the internships offered through the Western's athletic department are paid internships, but more importantly, Western Washington University Athletic department promises one the best hands on experience within University Athletics.

    This year the marketing department is looking to fill two positions: Viking Sports Campus Advertising Intern and Jr. Viking/Community Relations Intern. Each of the Western Washington University Athletic internships requires interns to attend all sporting events throughout the year. These internships are designed for the 2008/2009 academic school year starting September 2008 and ending in June 2009. These two internship opportunities vary significantly in areas of responsibility and are further outlined below.

    -- Posting weekly flyers
    -- Posting campus poster
    -- Approval and distribution of mailers, table tents, etc.
    -- Coordination of group promotions throughout campus
    -- Organize mass mailings
    -- Facebook postings/announcements
    -- AS Poster distribution for all home athletic events
    -- Bullseye e-mails and targeted e-mail advertising
    -- Work with Adobe In-Design (prior knowledge a plus)(required to take Adobe In-Design basic skills seminar - free for all WWU Students)
    -- Coordinate mass distribution of pocket schedules, posters, season ticket brochures and other promotional material throughout the community
    -- Assist in creation and design of sports posters, autograph pages, Jr. Viking material, Blue Crew materials and other items to help in promoting Western Athletics
    -- Assist with coordination of all Blue Crew activities
    -- Work directly with other WWU interns to assist in their responsibilities
    -- Assist with responsibilities at all home athletic events
    -- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
    

  • Jr. Vikings/Community Relations Intern (Paid)
    -- Sell Jr. Viking Memberships at WWU home games
    -- Mail Jr. Viking applications to fans that request information
