SEATTLE, Wash. - Western Washington University women's long jumper Tanya Bjornsson (Jr.., Ferndale) and women's pole vaulter Cheyenna Pinley (So., Bellingham/Squalicum) each improved their provisional national qualifying marks at the Seattle Pacific University Last Chance Indoor Track and Field meet Saturday at Dempsey Indoor on the UW campus.

The meet provided athletes a final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA II National Championships, which will take place March 7-9 at Birmingham, Alabama, at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Bjornnson leaped 18-9 1/4 in winning the long jump and Pinley cleared 12-2 1/2 in placing second in the pole vault to teammate Karis Anderson (Sr., Seattle/Roosevelt), who recorded the same height and won by misses. That puts both Bjornsson and Pinley among the top 16 nationally pending other results from the weekend.

Another event winner for the Vikings was Brett Watson (So., Ferndale) in the men's high jump. He surpassed the provisional standard in clearing 6-8 3/4, but is not among the top 16.

Bjornsson's long jump was just three quarters of an inch short of the school record and Watson's high jump was one quarter inch shy of the WWU standard set in 1992.
