PARKLAND, Wash. – Four Western Washington University throwers represented the Track & Field program at Saturday’s Pacific Lutheran University Open.
Men’s throwers Bryan Lee (Sr., Sammamish, WA/Skyline) and Brandon Pless (Jr., Sedro-Woolley, WA) competed in the hammer throw and discus, while women’s throwers Megan Mortensen (Sr., Tacoma, WA/Franklin Pierce) and Sophia Roberts (So., Ventura, CA) also competed in hammer and discus.
Pless won the discus competition with a personal-best throw of 46.60m/152-11, breaking his previous PR of 46.38m/152-2 set last season at the Emilie Mondor Invitational (4/9/16 at Simon Fraser). He also took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.29m/174-10, just short of his PR of 54.43m/178-7 set last season.
Lee finished 3rd in the discus (44.65m/146-06) and was 4th in the hammer throw (49.35m/161-11).
Mortensen, the back-to-back GNAC outdoor discus champion, won the discus competition with a throw of 41.57m/136-05. She also took 5th place in the hammer throw competition.
Roberts was 4th in the hammer (40.89m/134-02) and 10th in the discus (31.06m/101-11).
The Vikings return to competition next weekend with the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open in Portland, Ore., with the throwers competing Friday at Clackamas Community College and the remainder of the team on Saturday at Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium on the Lewis & Clark campus.
