WWU's Bjornsson is PNQ in women's 100 hurdles at UO Preview

EUGENE, Ore. - Western Washington University's Tanya Bjornsson (Jr., Ferndale) had an outstanding day, posting a NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying time of 14.29 seconds in the women's 100-meter hurdles, and the men's 4x400 relay had an impressive time of 3:16.49 to lead the Vikings at the University of Oregon Preview Track and Field meet Saturday at Hayward Field. Bjornsson placed third in the hurdles and was second in the long jump with a mark of 18-6. The WWU men's relay finished second. Making up that quartet were Jon Poolman (So., Langley/South Whidbey), Nathan Schmidt (So., Lynnwood), Jason Nokes (Sr., Spokane/Mount Spokane) and Devon Smith (Jr., Marysville/Lakewood). "Tanya had a great day and we had some very competitive efforts on the guys side," said WWU head coach Pee Wee Halsell. "The 4x400 time was very solid for this time of year." Placing first for the Vikings were Ryan Macdonald (So., Bellingham/Sehome) in the men's discus (158-1) with Frank Catelli (Fr., Sequim) third (146-1). Catelli also was third in the shot put (49-4 1/2). Also placing second for the Vikings were Kevin Yates (Fr., Snohomish) in the men's long jump (22-3 1/2), Brett Watson (So., Ferndale) in the men's high jump (6-7 1/2), and Amber Dodd (Jr., Sammamish/Skyline) in the women's 400 hurdles (1:05.54). Logan Myers (So., Capital/Olympia) finished third in the men's high jump (6-5 1/2) and placing fourth was Emily Walters (Jr., Olympia) in the women's triple jump (37-4). WWU competes in the Spring Break Open meet on Saturday, March 30, at Seattle. |
