
2017 Beach Invitational Results
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Western Washington University track & field program concluded its California trip on Saturday with day two of competition at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State University at Jack Rose Track Stadium.
The Vikings competed at the Mt. SAC Relays/California Invitational Combined Events and Bryan Clay Invitational, both hosted at Azusa Pacific University, along with the Beach Invitational over the past four days.
During the second day of competition at the Beach Invitational on Saturday, freshman Macie Allen (Gresham, OR/Barlow) tied for 65th in the 100m with a personal-best time of 12.38 while freshman Kelsey McLean (Kirkland, WA/Juanita) also ran a personal-best time of 12.51 to place 77th.
Senior Lillianna Stelling (Langley, WA/South Whidbey) was 55th in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 4:43.46 and junior Maddy Hutchison (Snoqualmie, WA/Mount Si) followed close behind in 58th, also recording a personal-best time of 4:44.12.
Senior Miranda Osadchey (Dupont, WA/Steilacoom) posted a season-best mark in the high jump, clearing 1.65m (5-5) to place 37th. Junior Anna Paradee (Tacoma, WA/Decatur) cleared 3.75m (12-3 ½) to finish 31st in the pole vault. Although a provisional-qualifying height it did not better her personal-best height of 3.80m (12-5 ½) set earlier this season, which ranks as a top 20 national mark.
Junior Deja Svastisalee (Spokane, WA/North Central) tied for 38th with a season-best time of 1:05.22 in the 400m hurdles while the 4x400m relay team of Svastisalee, Allen, sophomore Savannah Smith (Renton, WA) and sophomore Emily Sytsma (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) ran a season-best time of 3:58.12 to place 10th.
On the men's side, senior Gordie Kordas (Blaine, WA) placed 19th of 46 at a height of 4.45m (14-7 ¼) in the pole vault. In the long jump, senior Kevin Yates (Snohomish, WA) was 33rd (6.98m/22-11) while junior Somit Chhim (Kelso, WA) posted a season best of 6.80m/22-3 ¾ to place 42nd.
Junior Brandon Pless (Sedro-Woolley, WA) was 29th of 62 (15.64m/51-3 ¾) in the shot put and 39th of 83 in the discus (47.00m/154-2)
WWU alums Katie Reichert and Alex Donigian competed at the Beach Invitational as well, with Reichert throwing a personal-best (55.47m/182-00) to place 2nd in the javelin and Donigian finishing 5th in the 100m (10.47).
The Vikings travel to the Spike Arlt Invitational at Central Washington University next Saturday (April 22) before competing at home the following weekend when WWU hosts the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational on April 29 at Civic Stadium.
