BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Two Western Washington University indoor track and field athletes, sprinter Alex Donigian and thrower Frank Catelli, have been named Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for Jan. 12-18.

Donigian, a junior from Mission Viejo, Calif. (Trabuco Hills High School) was the track POW. He broke the GNAC's longest existing indoor track record in finishing third in the 60 meters at the UW Indoor Preview.

Donigian, whose previous career best was 6.85, was clocked in a school record and provisional national qualifying time of 6.76, eclipsing the old record of 6.78 set by Mike Hinshaw of Western Oregon in 2002.

Donigian also finished fifth in the 200 in a time of 22.14.

In both races, the only runners placing ahead of Donigian were competing for USC.

Catelli, a sophomore from Sequim, was the field POW. He won the shot put with a provisional mark of 55-10 1/2, breaking the WWU record by well over three feet. It also was the second-longest in GNAC history.
