BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior thrower Brandon Pless has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week, announced today from the conference office in Portland, Ore.
Pless (Sedro-Woolley, WA) won the discus competition with a personal-best throw of 46.60m/152-11, breaking his previous PR of 46.38m/152-2 set last season at the Emilie Mondor Invitational (4/9/16 at Simon Fraser). He also took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.29m/174-10, just short of his PR of 54.43m/178-7 set last season.
Pless’ throw of 152-11 is the best mark in the GNAC this season and 10th-best so far at the Division II level. This is the second time this season that Pless has won a GNAC weekly award, taking home athlete of the week honors Jan. 8-15 earlier this year to kick off the indoor season.
The Vikings return to competition next weekend with the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open in Portland, Ore., with the throwers competing Friday at Clackamas Community College and the remainder of the team on Saturday at Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium on the Lewis & Clark campus.
