WWU sending 26 athletes to compete at Oregon Preview

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Led by a trio of javelin throwers, Western Washington University is sending 26 athletes to compete in the University of Oregon Preview Track and Field meet on Saturday (12:20 p.m.) at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The Viking women were ranked 18th and the men 24th in their respective United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 outdoor track and field pre-season polls.

WWU's Bethany Drake (So., Sandy, Ore.) tops Division II nationally in the women's javelin with an automatic qualifying mark of 156-11 at the Puget Sound Quadrangular on March 1. Teammate Katie Reichert (Jr., Longview/Kelso) had a provisional mark of 139-2, which ranks sixth nationally, at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational on March 8.

And the Vikings' Slater Hirst (Jr., Shoreline/Kings) already is a provisional qualifier in the men's javelin with a mark of 194-7 at the UPS Quadrangular.
