Vikings have national provisional qualifying performances in two California meets

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University had NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying performances at two different northern California track and field meets Friday. Jordan Welling (So., Burlington/Burlington-Edison High School) posted a time of 14:28.48 in finishing 13th in a men's 5,000 meters heat at the Stanford University Invitational, and Anthony Tomsich (Jr., Fairbanks, AK/West Valley) was clocked in 3:51.96 as he placed third in the men's 1,500 at the San Francisco State University Distance Carnival. Also competing for the Vikings at the SFSU meet were Nick Abraham (So., Sammamish/Skyline), who was 12th in the men's 800 with a time of 1:58.31 and Alex Wipf (Fr., Edmonds/Meadowdale), who was 49th in the men's 5,000 with a 15:54.51 clocking. Welling placed ninth in the 5,000 at the NCAA II National Indoor Championships earlier this month. Tomsich missed all of last season with an Achilles heel injury. Western competes in the Spring Break Open meet Saturday at King's High School in Seattle. |
