BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University javelin thrower Katie Reichert has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Female Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for March 18-24.

Reichert, a freshman from Kelso, improved her provisional national qualifying mark in the javelin, winning with a throw of 143-0 at last Saturday's Club Northwest Spring Break Open.

Last year, as a senior at Kelso High School, Reichert placed second in the javelin at the Class 3A state championships with a toss of 135-3. She also finished 10th in the 300-meter hurdles (47.18).

WWU hosts the Ralph Vernacchia Team Meet on Friday (5 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.) at Bellingham's Civic Stadium.
