NORWALK, Calif. -
Western Washington University's Slater Hirst (Jr., Shoreline/Kings) bettered his provisional national qualifying mark in the men's javelin by nearly five feet as he placed third with an effort of 209-4 on Saturday at the Beach Track and Field Invitational meet held on the Cerritos College campus.
Teammate John Haskin (Fr., Bainbridge Island/Bainbridge) reached the provisional standard with a throw of 191-11 as he finished 14th. That was over five feet longer than his previous best this season.
The Vikings placed two-three in the women's javelin. Katie Reichert (Jr., Longview/Kelso) bettered her national automatic qualifying mark by seven inches with a toss of 162-8 and Bethany Drake (So., Sandy, OR), who tops NCAA Division II with a throw of 169-6, had a mark of 160-3.
WWU's Isaac Griffith (So., Spokane/Lewis & Clark) placed fourth in the men's 10,000 meters (31:23.25) and Lindsay Wells (Sr., Seattle/Nathan Hale) was eighth in the women's hammer (170-2).
