April 27, 2009
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University pole vaulter Christy Miller has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference outdoor track and field Female Athlete of the Week for Apr. 19-25.
Miller, a senior from Boise, Id. (graduate of Bishop Kelly High School), tied the league record and broke her own school standard as she cleared a meet record 12-4 at the WWU Twilite Invitational on Friday. That also improved her NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying mark by 2-1/2 inches.
Earlier this year, Miller broke her own indoor record in the pole vault, clearing 12-5 1/2. She tied that mark at the national meet, earning All-America honors by placing fourth in that competition.
