Macdonald and Drake are event winners at Saint Martin's Invitational

Saint Martin's Invitational - Complete Results Get Acrobat Reader

LACEY, Wash. - Western Washington University's Ryan Macdonald (Jr., Bellingham/Sehome) led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the men's discus and the Vikings' Bethany Drake (So., Sandy, OR) won the women's javelin at the Saint Martin's University Track & Field Invitational on Saturday at the SMU track.

Macdonald had a season-best mark of 159-3 to win the discus and Damien Fisher (Sr., Fife) was second at 148-3.

Drake's winning throw by nearly 10 feet in the javelin was 151-6. She is the NCAA Division II national leader in that event with a mark of 169-6.

Besides Fisher, WWU had six other second-place performances. They were Kali Klotz-Brooks (Fr., Cheney) in the women's 1,500 meters with a personal best of 4:45.59, Cheyenna Pinley (Jr., Bellingham/Squalicum) in the women's pole vault (10-6), Dylan Brown (So., Auburn/Auburn-Riverside) in the men's 1,500 (3:57.42), Gordie Kordas (Fr., Blaine) in the men's pole vault (14-3 1/4), John Haskin (So., Bainbridge Island) in the men's javelin (181-2) and Maddie Jalbert (So., Niwot, CO) in the women's 10,000 (42:36.37).

WWU competes in the GNAC Championships on May 9-10 at Monmouth, Ore. The Viking men are the defending champions.
