BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Thirteen Western Washington University athletes were named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II West Region All-Stars for the 2014 outdoor track and field season as announced Monday.

Three of the Vikings earned the honor in two events. They were Frank Catelli (So., Sequim) in the men's shot put (59-7) and discus (173-11), Logan Myers (Jr., Olympia/Capital) in the men's 110-meter hurdles (14.65) and high jump (6-8 1/4), and Katelyn Steen (Jr., Sammamish/Eastlake) in the women's 3,000 steeplechase (10:34.40) and 5,000 (16:59.03).

Catelli's best shot put effort of 59-7 was a school and Great Northwest Athletic Conference record as well as an automatic national qualifier.

WWU's Lindsay Wells (Sr., Seattle Nathan Hale) was honored for the fourth straight year in the women's hammer with a school-record throw of 182-4.

Steen's steeplechase award was her third. Another three-time honoree was Brett Watson (Jr., Ferndale) in the men's high jump (6-8 1/4).

Six more repeaters were Catelli in the shot put, Alex Donigian (So., Mission Viejo, CA/Trabuco Hills) in the men's 100 (10.49), Bethany Drake (So., Sandy, OR) in the women's javelin with a national-leading throw of 169-6, Tanya Bjornsson (Sr., Ferndale) in the women's 100 hurdles (14.21), Ryan Macdonald (Jr., Bellingham/Sehome) in the men's discus (159-11), and Katie Reichert (Jr., Longview/Kelso) in the women's javelin (162-8) where she is ranked fourth nationally.

Rounding out WWU's all-region picks were Jacob Gilbert (Sr., Bellingham/Sehome) in the men's shot put (52-6), Slater Hirst (Jr., Shoreline/Kings) in the men's javelin (214-8) and Maggie Roe (Sr., Bellevue/Newport) in the women's discus (140-3).

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams.
