In fifth season as assistant cross country and track coach at WWU ... USATF Level 1 certified coach ... USTFCCCA Endurance Specialist certified coach ... Also in second year as NCAA Compliance intern ... Helped both men's and women's cross country teams reach NCAA Division II Championships from 2008 to 2012 with both squads placing among top 12 all four years ... Helped WWU men's cross country reach national championships from 2007 to 2012 with teams placing among top 11 for five straight years with top finish of fourth in 2009 ... Helped women's cross country reach national championships from 2008 to 2011 with teams placing among top 12 for four straight years with a top finish of eighth in 2009 ... Helped men's track win GNAC outdoor titles in 2010, 2012 and 2013, and indoor championship in 2013 ... Nine athletes have earned All-America honors and 19 distance school records have been broken in cross country and indoor/outdoor track during during his tenure ... Received bachelor's degree from WWU in 2008 and master's degree from Concordia University of Irvine in 2013 ... Competed on six GNAC championship teams for Vikings, three in cross country (2003, 2006 and 2007), two in indoor track (2005 and 2006) and one in outdoor track (2005) ... Named 2004 GNAC Freshman of the Year in cross country, earning all-conference honors in 2004 and 2006 ... Also all-GNAC in track in 2006, being steeplechase national qualifier in 2006 and 2007 ... USTFCCCA National Scholar-Athlete in track in 2006 ... 2003 graduate from Kelso (Wash.) High School ... 28 years old ... Married to former Katrina Schwerdtfeger, who is head cross country and track coach at Squalicum High School in Bellingham.
