Six Vikings Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Six Western Washington University cross country student-athletes have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Team for their efforts in competition as well as in the classroom.  

Members of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and finish among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at the regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships. The following WWU individuals earned the distinction.

Men:

Women

Lutz (3.26, geophysics) earned the distinction for the third time in his career while Derline (3.37, community health) and Wise (3.43, journalism/environmental policy) were each honored for a second time in their careers. A total of 404 women from 137 schools and 269 men from 118 schools earned the academic honor.

The WWU men placed 7th while the women finished 8th at the regional championships in 2016. Derline finished 5th as an individual at the regional and went on to represent the Vikings at the NCAA Championships.
