BELLINGHAM, Wash. -
Three-time choice Danielle Slaughter (Sr., Spokane/Shadle Park) headed eight Western Washington University student-athletes named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Academic All-Star Team announced today.
Slaughter is a bio-chemistry major with a 3.69 (4.0 scale) grade point average.
Two Vikings selected for the second straight year were Jordan Welling (Jr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison), a manufacturing and supply chain management major with a 3.60 GPA, and Maeve Sayres (Jr., Valleyford/Freeman), a biology major with a 3.26 GPA.
Completing Western's academic all-stars were Lauren Breihof (So., Vancouver/Mountain View), a business administration and marketing with a 3.52 GPA; Eric Brill (So., Kent/Kentwood), a biology/secondary education major with a 3.84 GPA; Sierra Brisky (So., Acme/Mount Baker), an art major with a 3.85 GPA; Phoebe Hartnett (So., San Diego, CA/Patrick Henry), a special education/elementary major with a 3.92 GPA; and
Lauren Thompson (Jr., Sammamish/Eastlake), a biology major with a 3.34 GPA.

Cross Country: Seventy-Three Named To GNAC Academic Team
SPOKANE, Wash. --- A total of 73 student-athletes - 23 men and 50 women - have been named to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country all-academic team.
Heading up the women's academic squad are two players with perfect 4.00 GPAs - Arielle Rolle of Alaska Anchorage and Krinda Carlson of Saint Martin's. Justin Karr of Western Oregon has the best GPA (3.99) among the 23 men selected to the squad.
Fifteen of the athletes - 12 women and three men - were all honored for the third time. Nineteen others were repeat selections.
To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
