White Tops Blue 95-75 in Annual Scrimmage

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Senior forward Deandre Dickson scored a game-high 31 points as the White team topped the Blue team, 95-75, in the annual Blue-White Scrimmage held Saturday night on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

Dickson (Easton, CA/Washington Union/Bakersfield College) was 10-for-21 from the field and 10-of 11 from the free-throw line, scoring 18 points in the second half as the White squad pulled away after trailing 43-41 at the half.

Sophomore forward Trevor Jasinsky (Camas, WA) added 22 points (7-of-14 shooting) for the White team while redshirt freshman guard Drew Magaoay (Shoreline, WA/Cascade) finished with 13 points. Redshirt freshman forward Dominick Oliveri (Spokane, WA/Lewis & Clark) contributed 12 points and junior guard Tyler Payne (Long Beach, CA/La Mirada/Cerritos College) scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds, while senior guard Brad Wallace (Lacey, WA/River Ridge) had a team-high 5 assists along with 5 points.

Redshirt junior forward Siaan Rojas (Concord, CA/Santa Rosa JC) finished with a double-double to lead the Blue team, scoring 21 points (7-of-16 shooting) to go along with game-high totals of 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Junior center Logan Schilder (Bellingham, WA/Whatcom CC) added 14 points and 7 rebounds along with 2 blocks for the Blue team while senior guard Blake Fernandez (Mountlake Terrace, WA/Edmonds CC) finished with 11 points and 5 assists.

Junior guard Micah Winn (Los Angeles, CA/Crenshaw/Cerritos College) also reached double figures with 10 points for the Blue team while senior guard Brett Kingma (Mill Creek, WA/Jackson) scored 9 points and junior guard Elijah Cotton-Welch (Tacoma, WA/Wilson/Lower Columbia) added 8 points.  

Fans are invited to join the Vikings for the 31st Annual Viking Jam, featuring the WWU men's and women's basketball teams in a high-energy evening of contests and scrimmages, next Wednesday (Oct. 25) on WECU Court in Carver Gym. The Vikings are back in their on-campus facility for 2017-18 after a two-year hiatus playing games at Whatcom Pavilion on the campus of Whatcom Community College while Carver underwent a remodel. Viking Jam offers free admission and the main event begins at 7 pm following pre-party festivities that kick off the evening when doors open at 6 pm.

WWU hosts an exhibition game vs. Quest on Nov. 1 (Wednesday) at 7 pm before starting the regular-season schedule with the PacWest/GNAC Challenge at Carver Gym on Nov. 10-11. The Vikings officially open the 2017-18 season against Notre Dame de Namur on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 pm and face Hawai'i Hilo the following evening on Nov. 11 at 7:30 pm.

The PacWest/GNAC Challenge marks the start of a stretch of eight consecutive home games for WWU to begin the regular season. The complete 2017-18 schedule can be viewed online at WWUVikings.com.
