Vikings roll to 99-54 win over Walla Walla

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Guard Ira Graham (Jr., Fontana, CA) scored a game-high 17 points on 8-of-12 field-goal shooting as Western Washington University defeated Walla Walla University, 99-54, in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
The Vikings improved to 5-1 with their fifth consecutive victory.
Walla Walla fell to 3-6 with its third straight loss. Center Ryan Wilson led the Wolves with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Western took control quickly, scoring the first eight points and jumping to an 18-6 lead just over eight minutes into the game. The Vikings held a 40-24 lead at halftime and extended the margin throughout the second half, at one point holding Walla Walla scoreless for five minutes.
Five Western players scored in double figures. Guard Andrew Ready (Jr., Chicago, IL/Westinghouse) had 14 points, forward Derrick Webb (Jr., Port Orchard/South Kitsap) added 13 off the bench, forward Calin Schell (Jr., Chelan) contributed 12, and forward Steve Alford (Jr., Bakersfield/South) had 11 points.
Schell, who had 10 of his points in the first half, also had a team-high six rebounds.
The Vikings shot a season-high 63.6 percent (42-of-66) from the field, and held Walla Walla to 31.3 percent shooting (20-of-64), although the Wolves did have a 41-34 edge in rebounds.
The Vikings conclude a string of five consecutive home games by entertaining Multnomah Bible College OR on Wednesday, Dec. 5 (7 p.m.).
