BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University men's basketball center Calin Schell has been named a first-team College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine College Division District 8 Academic All-Star.

Schell, a senior from Chelan (graduate of Chelan High School), is a Manufacturing Engineering Technology major maintaining a 3.71 grade point average (4.0 scale).

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Schell, who has started all 16 games this season, is averaging 10.9 points and 8.3 rebounds for the Vikings, who are 13-3 and riding a three-game winning streak. They are third in the latest NCAA Division II West Region rating and lead the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with a 5-1 record.

During his four-year Western career, Schell has scored 620 points and grabbed 508 rebounds. He is a two-time GNAC Academic All-Star.

First-team all-district selections are eligible for All-American honors.
