BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Three Western Washington University men’s basketball team student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Sophomore forward Trey Drechsel (Woodinville, WA/Cedar Park Christian), junior forward Evan Scholten (Bothell, WA/Cedar Park Christian) and senior guard Taylor Stafford (Chicago, IL/Evansville) were each honored as members of the GNAC Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team.

Scholten becomes the sixth player in program history to be named to the GNAC All-Academic at least twice in a career.

Student-athletes named to GNAC All-Academic teams must be in their sophomore year of eligibility or greater and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.

The No. 20 Vikings (19-5, 13-3 GNAC) is currently tied for 1st place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with four regular-season games remaining. WWU travels to face rival Central Washington (Thursday, 8 pm, ROOT SPORTS) and Northwest Nazarene (Saturday, 7 pm MT) this week.
