WWU earns top rating in first NCAA II West Region Poll

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University earned the top ranking in the inaugural NCAA Division II West Regional men's basketball poll released today.

The Vikings, 24-0 and ranked No.2 nationally, are one of three GNAC teams ranked in the poll. Seattle Pacific is third and Alaska Anchorage eighth.

Cal Poly Pomona, 19-1, is second in the regional poll, while Dixie State is fourth.

The poll will eventually help determine, which five at-large teams join the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA champions in the West Regional playoffs. The regional begins Friday, March 15 at a site to be determined.

Generally the top-ranked team earns the right to host the regional.

1. Western Washington; 2. Cal Poly Pomona; 3. Seattle Pacific; 4. Dixie State; 5. Grand Canyon; 6. Cal State San Bernardino; 7. Chaminade; 8. Alaska Anchorage.
