Henne named second-team Daktronics West Region All-Star

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University forward Lukas Henne was a second-team pick on the Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region Men's Basketball All-Star Team announced today.

Henne, a senior from Bremerton (graduate of Central Kitsap High School), led the Vikings in points (18.0 avg.), rebounds (7.3), field goal percentage (53.4 percent, 156-of-292) and free throw percentage (88.9 percent, 136-of-153).

Henne, who started all 26 games for Western, ranked second among Great Northwest Athletic Conference leaders in rebounds, fourth in blocks (1.5), sixth in points and free throw percentage and ninth in field goal shooting.

A four-year letter winner, Henne finished with career totals of 799 points and 399 rebounds.

Western finished 11-15 overall and was 5-11 in GNAC action.

Kevin Johnson named Division II West Region Player of the Year

GOLD CANYON, AZ - Humboldt State senior forward Kevin Johnson not only will lead his club at the NCAA Division II West Regionals this week, but the veteran frontcourt player has been named the 2006-07 Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Year.

Johnson was one of five players named to the First Team Region All-star Team, which is selected by the sports information directors of NCAA II West Region schools that sponsor men's basketball.

The region includes teams competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and Pacific West Conference.

Joining Johnson on the First Team were forward Jontae Vinson of Cal State-Los Angeles, as well as two GNAC players in Jushay Rockett of Alaska-Fairbanks and Dustin Bremerman of Seattle Pacific. Both players are senior forwards.

Chaminade senior guard Zack Whiting, a Bob Cousy Award finalist, was also named to the First Team. All five first-team selections will now go on the national ballot for Daktronics All-American.

Five players were also named to the Second Team including senior forwards J.T. Tipton of Sonoma State and Lukas Henne of Western Washington, and senior guards Dion Cook of Cal Poly-Pomona and Prentice Harris of Cal State-San Bernardino. Junior forward Devin Peal, also of Humboldt State, was the lone underclassman to make the squad.
