Taylor Stafford Selected to Play in All-Star Game

March 20, 2017

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University senior guard Taylor Stafford has been selected to play in the 2017 Reese’s® Division II College All-Star Game, announced today by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) from the association’s headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Reese's Division II College All-Star game will be played on Friday, March 24, at 7 pm CT/5 pm PT as part of the festivities for the NCAA Division II Elite Eight at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The all-star teams are composed of two senior student-athletes from each of the eight regions in Division II and five senior at-large selections. The game will be streamed live on the Sanford Pentagon Facebook page.

Stafford (Chicago, IL) continues to add to his list of accolades from his senior season. He has been named First Team All-West Region (CCA), GNAC Player of the Year, GNAC Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-GNAC, GNAC Tournament MVP and tied a conference record being named GNAC Player of the Week four times. He was also named to the GNAC All-Academic team and is on the top 25 watch list for the Bevo Francis Award presented annually to the top player in small college basketball.

Stafford helped lead the Vikings to both the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, ranking third in the conference and in the top 20 in NCAA Division II in scoring by averaging 22.8 points per game. He became the first player in WWU history to score 700 points in a season (706) and recorded the second-best scoring average in a single season in program history. Stafford scored 20 or more points in 20 of 31 games, and led the GNAC with eight games with 30 or more points. WWU finished the season with a 25-6 overall record and advanced to the NCAA II West Regional as the No. 3 seed.

The NABC All-District teams will be announced later today and the All-America team will be released tomorrow (Tuesday, March 21).
