Graham helps West to victory in NCAA II All-Star Game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western Washington University guard Ira Graham scored 21 points in helping the West to a 138-117 victory over the East in the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II All-Star Game on Friday at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. Graham made 9-of-17 field goals and was 3-of-4 on free throws. He also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Graham and Saint Martin's guard Jake Linton were both starters for the West, which led 70-52 at halftime. Linton finished with 19 points on 7-of-11 field-goal accuracy, making 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Midwestern State guard Nolan Richardson led the West with 22 points, and USC Aiken center Chris Commons added 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The East was paced by Elizabeth City State forward Anthony Hilliard with game highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds. A 6-foot-1 senior from Fontana, Calif. (Fontana High School), Graham was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He also was named to both the first-team NABC West District and Daktronics West Region all-star squads. Graham finished his four-year Western career with 1,465 points, tying him for seventh among school leaders. He scored 515 points as a senior, becoming the first Viking player to have two 500-point seasons. Graham, a two-time, first-team league all-star, helped the Vikings to a 21-6 record, the school's first outright GNAC title and the first round of the NCAA II West Regional. He averaged 19.1 points, being held under double figures in just two games, and 3.2 assists. Graham is the second Viking to compete in the NABC DII all-star contest. Western's Ryan Diggs participated in the inaugural game in 2006, receiving co-MVP honors. |
