BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University guard John Allen, a senior from Brier (Mountlake Terrace High graduate), was named to the 2013 Division II Bulletin Men's Basketball All-America first team announced Monday, April 1.
Allen helped the Vikings to a 31-3 record, the win total tying the school record; a second straight NCAA II West Regional championship and the semifinals of the Elite Eight.
Allen was WWU's leader in points (17.1 per game average), assists (4.1) and 3-point makes (69). Earlier, he was named a third-team Daktronics All-America and both Daktronics West Region and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Allen finished with 1,480 career points, seventh among WWU leaders. He accomplished that in three seasons, the highest total of any Viking not playing four seasons. Allen also finished 12th in career assists (348), and his free-throw percentage of 89.4 (244-of-273) was a school record.
Allen scored double-figure points a team-high 27 times this season with a high of 38.
Also named a DII Bulletin All-America from the West Region was Cal Poly Pomona guard Mitchel Anderson, a third team choice. Receiving honorable mention were Terrence Drisdom from Cal Poly Pomona, Kwame Alexander from Cal State San Bernardino, David Downs from Seattle Pacific and De'Andre Haskins from Chaminade.
