April 17, 2012
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam has announced that it has signed former Western Washington University and local prep standout Zach Henifin to the team's roster for the 2012 International Basketball League season. As a senior at WWU, the athletic 6-foot-5 forward helped lead the Vikings to the NCAA Division II national title last month. The championship capped a fine season for Henifin, as he finished with averages of 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. During WWU's postseason run, Henifin was named to the NCAA West Regional all-tournament team and recorded a career-high 12 rebounds in the Vikings' national semifinal win over Stonehill College. Henifin played two seasons at WWU after transferring from Whatcom Community College, where he helped guide the Orcas to a 23-9 record as a sophomore. In high school, Henifin starred as a Bellingham Red Raider, where he was named first-team all Northwest League and a Bellingham Herald all-Whatcom County pick following a senior season in which he averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. Henifin will make his professional debut this Friday as the Slam travel to the Olympia Reign to open the 2012 IBL season. On Saturday, Henifin will return to familiar surroundings at Whatcom Pavilion as Bellingham hosts the Salem Soldiers in their home opener. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. |
