Blanche receives two awards at WWU banquet

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Senior forward Rory Blanche (Ashland, OR) received the team's Most Valuable Player award at the annual Western Washington University men's basketball banquet held Sunday evening at the Best Western Lakeway Inn.

Blanche averaged a team-leading 15.9 points per game. He also grabbed a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game and received the Price Visser Rebounding Award.

The Chuck Randall Coaches Award went to senior forward Zach Henifin (Bellingham), the Most Improved Award to junior center Chris Mitchell (Everson/Nooksack Valley) and the Joe Morse Most Inspirational Player Award to junior guard Alfred Davis (Tacoma/Lincoln).

Named the Rich Baxter Hustle Award winner was sophomore guard Dane Thorpe (Bellingham/Sehome) and the Practice Player of the Year honor went to junior forward Damien Fisher (Fife).

WWU won the NCAA Division II championship, the first national title in the 110-year history of the program, and finished with a 31-5 record, the win total being a school record.
