WWU announces 2012-13 men's basketball schedule

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Two exhibition games against NCAA Division I opponents, a trip to Hawaii and 14 home games highlight the 2012-13 men's basketball schedule for defending NCAA II champion Western Washington University as announced by national Coach of the Year Brad Jackson (28th year, 518-279). The Vikings' preseason games are at Washington on Oct. 24 and at Duke on Oct. 27. They open their regular season at home against Multnomah OR on Nov. 9 before traveling to Hawaii for two games, facing Brigham Young-Hawaii on Nov. 12 and Chaminade on Nov. 14. In all, WWU plays 14 regular-season games at Sam Carver Gymnasium. They meet two non-conference opponents Quest BC on Dec. 8 and Thompson River BC on Dec. 30, followed by Great Northwest Athletic Conference contests against arch-rival Central Washington on Jan. 10, Northwest Nazarene on Jan. 12, Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 24, Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 26, Montana State Billings on Jan. 31, Seattle Pacific on Feb. 2, Saint Martin's on Feb. 14, Western Oregon on Feb. 16 and Simon Fraser on March 2. The Vikings are at the Great Western Shootout in mid-December, facing Drury MO on Dec. 18 and Central Oklahoma on Dec. 19. Their GNAC road contests are at Simon Fraser on Dec. 1, Seattle Pacific on Jan. 3, Montana State Billings on Jan. 5, Western Oregon on Jan. 17, Saint Martin's on Jan. 19, Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 7, Central Washington on Feb. 9, Alaska Fairbanks on Feb. 21 and Alaska Anchorage on Feb. 23. The GNAC post-season tournament will be at Saint Martin's for the second straight year on March 7-9. WWU returns three starters, led by senior guard John Allen, who was the West Regional Most Outstanding Player, from last season's 31-5 team that won the regular-season GNAC title (16-2) followed by West Regional and national championships. |
