2014-15 WWU Men's Basketball Schedule
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -
Fifteen home games and a trip to Puerto Rico highlight the 2014-15 men's basketball schedule for Western Washington University.
The Vikings, who just missed a third straight trip to the NCAA Division II West Regional last season, open their campaign at home with the Chuck Randall Classic, meeting Notre Dame de Namur on Nov. 14 and Hawaii Hilo on Nov. 15. They then travel to Puerto Rico for counting games with Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Nov. 18 and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Nov. 19 and an exhibition with American University-Puerto Rico on Nov. 22.
WWU returns home for contests with Multnomah on Nov. 25, Douglas BC on Nov. 29 and Quest BC on Dec. 2 before beginning Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at Simon Fraser on Dec. 6.
The Vikings then have three non-conference games, playing host to Thompson Rivers BC on Dec. 15 and competing in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic at Las Vegas against Tarleton State TX on Dec. 18 and Cal State San Bernardino on Dec. 19.
Seventeen GNAC contests end WWU's regular season. The home encounters are Montana State Billings on Jan. 8, Seattle Pacific on Jan. 10, Saint Martin's on Jan. 22, Western Oregon on Jan. 24, Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 29, Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 31, Central Washington on Feb. 12, Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 14 and Simon Fraser on Feb. 26.
Besides Simon Fraser, the Vikings' other GNAC road games are at Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 1, Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 3, Northwest Nazarene on Jan. 15, Central Washington on Jan. 17, Seattle Pacific on Feb. 5, Montana State Billings on Feb. 7, Western Oregon on Feb. 19, and Saint Martin's on Feb. 21.
WWU opens its season with an exhibition home game versus Team Another Level on Nov. 4.
Head coach Tony Dominguez (3rd year, 51-11) returns three starters. They are 6-7 senior Anye Turner (Olympia/Black Hills, 8.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg), 6-6 sophomore Jeffrey Parker (Richmond, CA/Salesian, 11.9 ppg) and 6-7 sophomore Joey Schreiber (Renton/Eastside Catholic, 10.7 ppg). Also expected to play a big role is junior guard Ricardo Maxwell (Cincinnati, OH/Withrow), who was a redshirt last year after transferring from Edmonds CC where he earned first-team NWAC North Region all-star honors.
The Vikings won the national title in 2012 and reached the national semifinals in 2013.
