Blue-White Game Saturday Opens Men's Hoops Preseason

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men’s basketball program opens the 2017-18 preseason this Saturday with the annual Blue-White Game on WECU Court at Carver Gym.

The scrimmage is scheduled tip-off at 5 pm in renovated Carver Gymnasium as part of WWU Fall Family Weekend. Admission to the game is free of charge and parking is free in the C lots with shuttle service to Carver provided.

The Blue-White game kicks off the preseason exhibition schedule for the 2017-18 Vikings, with the team divided into two squads that will play a regulation game. Team rosters will be set later in the week and announced via social media via @WWUAthletics on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“The Blue-White is a great opportunity for our guys to get out on the court and into competition after a long offseason of conditioning and drills,” said sixth-year head coach Tony Dominguez, the 2016-17 GNAC Coach of the Year. “It is always fun to get into the game environment with referees, fans and the scoreboard for the first time. We have a group that is ready to get after it and they are looking forward to ”

The usual fast-paced game will give fans a first look at the defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions, who are coming off a 25-6 season and a 17-3 mark in league play. Eight letterwinners and four starters return from last year’s squad that advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships as the No. 3 seed in the West Regional.

“We are looking to recapture the great chemistry, intensity and execution that we had at the end of last year when we take the court on Saturday,” added Dominguez. “We are also looking to stay healthy and see how guys respond when they are battling for playing time.”

WWU will also host an exhibition game vs. Quest on Nov. 1 (Wednesday) at 7 pm before opening the regular-season slate with the PacWest/GNAC Challenge at Carver Gym on Nov. 10-11. The Vikings officially open the 2017-18 season against Notre Dame de Namur on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 pm.

Season tickets are available for all 16 home games by visiting WWUVikings.com/Tickets. The 2017-18 schedule includes 28 regular-season games, with 8 non-conference games and 20 games in GNAC play. WWU will play 16 home games on WECU Court at Carver Gym, returning to the on-campus state-of-the art facility after a two-year renovation. The first eight games of the 2017-18 season will all be played at Carver Gym, with the Vikings hosting the PacWest/GNAC Challenge Nov. 10-11 and the annual Chuck Randall Classic Nov. 24-25. The GNAC schedule opens with a pair of home games against Concordia (Nov. 30, 7 pm) and Western Oregon (Dec. 2, 7 pm).
