BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Rico Wilkins won the slam-dunk contest with a final-round perfect score of 50 to highlight Viking Jam, Western Washington University's 26th annual preseason introduction of its men's and women's hoop teams, on Wednesday at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.

Wilkins, a six-foot senior guard from Dallas, Texas, also scored 50 on one of his two first-round dunks. He competed in the final round against two transfers - center Austin Bragg (Jr., Longview/Mark Morris) from Clark CC and forward Anye Turner (So., Tumwater/Black Hills) from South Puget Sound CC.

The Viking men took the three-point contest, 52-45. They were led by Dane Thorpe (Jr., Bellingham/Sehome) and Cameron Severson (Sr., Petersburg, AK), who each hit 11 treys. Corinn Waltrip (Sr., Tigard, OR) paced the women with 11 threes.

Rings were presented to players and coaches of the Vikings' 2012 NCAA Division II national championship squad. WWU finished 31-5, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season crown and the West Regional title on its way to the national title.

Wednesday's program also included roster introductions, intra-squad scrimmages and routines by the WWU cheerleaders and Hip-Hop dance team.

Both WWU squads are ranked nationally in the Division II Bulletin Preseason Polls, the men eighth and the women 12th.
