BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Former Western Washington University men's basketball guard John Allen was selected 59th overall by the Texas Legends in the National Basketball Association Developmental League Draft held Friday, Nov. 1.

Allen was the third overall choice by the Legends and the fifth pick in the fourth round. Texas is the D-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks.

During his last two seasons at WWU, Allen played on teams that won the NCAA Division II national championship in 2012 and reached the national semifinals last March. The Vikings won 31 games and took West Regional titles in each of those campaigns.

As a senior, the 6-foot-1 product from Brier was selected to three All-American teams and earned West Region and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year accolades.

Allen finished with 1,480 career points during his three-year career. That ranks seventh among school leaders and is the highest total by a Viking competing three or fewer seasons. As a senior, Allen averaged 17.1 points per game and 4.1 assists.

Camp begins Thursday, Nov. 7, for the Legends located in Frisco, Texas.
