BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University guard John Allen has been named Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 16-22.
Allen, a senior from Brier (graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School), scored 47 points in leading the Vikings to wins over 14th ranked Drury, 72-69, and Central Oklahoma, 103-74, at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas.
Allen, who scored a season-high 32 points in the win over Central Oklahoma, made 14 of 28 shots, including nine of 17 three-point attempts. He also had six assists and three steals.
Allen was named the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic MVP and center Chris Mitchell (Sr., Everson/Nooksack Valley) was an all-tourney pick.
Allen currently ranks 18th among WWU career scoring leaders with 1,068 points.
The two victories extended WWU's win streak to 15, matching the second longest in GNAC and school history. The defending NCAA Division II national champion and nationally No.5-rated Vikings are off to a 9-0 start this season after winning their last six games last year.
