|HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Western Washington University is the 2012 NCAA Division II men's basketball national champion.
The Vikings defeated Montevallo, Ala., 72-65, in the championship of the NCAA II Elite Eight on Saturday in a nationally televised contest at The Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of host Northern Kentucky University.
Guard John Allen (Jr., Brier/Mountlake Terrace) led five WWU players in double figures with 14 points.

WWU 71, Stonehill 66 - Final Four - NCAA Semifinals
|HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Western Washington University opened up a 20-point lead then survived a late rally to defeat Stonehill College, 71-66, in a semifinal game of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight on Thursday at The Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of host Northern Kentucky University.
The Vikings, ranked No.12 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA II Top 25 Poll, improved to 30-5 and advance to their first-ever national championship game, facing the winner of the semifinal between No. 4 Bellarmine, Ky., and No. 22 Montevallo, Ala., on Saturday at 10 a.m. PDT. Saturday's championship contest will be televised on CBS.
An average audience of 3.1 million people has watched the NCAA II Championship in recent years.

WWU 64, Midwestern St. 63 - Elite Eight - NCAA Quarterfinals
|HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Western Washington University overcame going scoreless for more than six minutes to start the game and rallied for a 64-63 victory over Midwestern State University in a quarterfinal round game of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight on Wednesday at The Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of host Northern Kentucky University.
The Vikings, ranked No.12 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA II Top 25 Poll, improved to 29-5 with the triumph and advance to face Stonehill College, Mass., in the national semifinals at 4 p.m. PDT Thursday. It matches Western's deepest ever run in the national tournament, as it also reached the semifinals in 2001.

WWU 56, Seattle Pacific 50 - Third Round - NCAA West Regional Finals
|BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Guard John Allen (Jr., Brier/Mountlake Terrace) scored a game-high 16 points and was named regional tournament MVP as Western Washington University defeated Seattle Pacific University, 56-50, in the West Regional championship game of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
The top-seeded Vikings improved to 28-5 and advance to the NCAA II Elite Eight for the first time since 2001.
WWU held a 30-23 lead at halftime, but SPU opened the second half with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 32-32 just 2:07 into the period. However, fastbreak layins by Blanche and Allen triggered a 14-4 run, and the Vikings opened up a 46-36 lead with 10:23 left, the biggest margin of the game. Continue reading...

|BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Forwards Rory Blanche (Sr., Ashland, OR) and Zach Henifin (Sr., Bellingham) combined for 25 of their 34 points in the second half to lead top-seeded Western Washington University to a 74-65 win over fifth-seed Chico State Saturday in the second semifinal game of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Regional Tournament at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the campus of host Western Washington University.
The nationally 12th-ranked Vikings, who improved to 27-5, will play third-seeded Seattle Pacific (23-7) in Monday’s championship game at 7 p.m. Seattle Pacific advanced with an 80-66 win over second-seeded Alaska Anchorage in Saturday’s first semifinal.
Blanche scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half and Henifin had 10 of his 17 after the intermission. WWU also got 13 points from John Allen (Jr., Brier/Mountlake Terrace) and 11 from Richard Woodworth (So., Bellevue/Newport). Continue reading...

|BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Guard John Allen (Jr., Brier/Mountlake Terrace) scored 15 of his game-high 24 points in the first half as Western Washington University built a 25-point lead, but the Vikings had to hold off a furious comeback from Grand Canyon University in the second half before earning a 79-73 win in the final game of Friday's first round of the West Regional of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the campus of host Western Washington University.
The Vikings (26-5), the No.1 seed in the West Region, will play No. 5 seed Chico State (25-7) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the second semifinal game. Second-seed Alaska Anchorage (22-6) meets third-seed Seattle Pacific (22-7) in the first semifinal game at 5 p.m.
