WWU's Mark Strickland tied for second in medalist play at St. Edward's Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - Western Washington University's Mark Strickland (Jr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is tied for second, two strokes behind the leader, after opening-round action Monday at the St. Edward's Men's Golf Invitational being played at the Grey Rock Golf Club.

The Vikings shot 311 and are 11th among 16 teams. Barry FL, ranked No.1 nationally in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, and No.4-rated Cal State Monterey Bay are tied for the lead at 8-over par 296. No.16 Western New Mexico is third at 300 and No.14 Cal State Stanislaus is tied for fourth with host St. Edward's at 303.

Strickland is tied for second at 1-under 71 with Calum Hill from Western New Mexico. Barry's Adam Svensson is the medalist leader after firing a 3-under 69.

Weather conditions forced Monday's second round to be stopped after 14 holes. With freezing rain predicted, the decision has been made to just try and complete the second round on Tuesday.

WWU's Chris Hatch (Fr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is in a four-way tie for 43rd after shooting 78. Jack Kelly (So., Snoqualmie/Mount Si) is in a six-way tie for 54th (80), Kyle Schrader (Jr., Olympia/Tumwater) is in a nine-way tie for 65th (82) and Kyle Lindor (R-Fr., Woodinville) is in a three-way tie for 81st (87).
