TURLOCK, Calif. - With three players placing among the top 15 in medalist play, Western Washington University ended its regular season with a solid fifth-place performance at the 41st Annual Hanny Cal State Stanislaus Invitational Men's Golf Tournament which ended Tuesday at the 6,641-yard Turlock Golf and Country Club.

The Vikings shot a final round 297 for a 54-hole total of 891.

Cal State Monterey Bay, ranked No.3 nationally in the Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, won by three strokes (287=872) over No.4 rated Chico State (290=875) in the 19-team field. CSUMB's final round 1-under par 287 was the best of the tournament by three shots.

Host and defending champion Cal State Stanislaus was third (292=880) and Central Missouri fourth (297=888).

WWU's Kyle Schrader (Jr., Olympia/Tumwater) tied for eighth at 220, Craig Crawford (Sr., Stanwood/Highland Christian) tied for ninth at 221 and Chris Hatch (Fr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) tied for 14th at 223.

Crawford and Hatch each shot 1-over 73 and Schrader had a 74.

The Vikings' Mark Strickland (Jr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) tied for 46th at 231 (78) and Brennan Emory (R-Fr., Mount Vernon) tied for 55th at 232 (77). Strickland was second at last year's tourney.

Tying for medalist honors at 2-under 214 were Cal State Stanislaus' Trevor Clayton (70) and Chico State's Lee Gearhart (73). Clayton was the individual champion all by himself last year.

WWU next competes in the seventh annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Apr. 21-22 at Coeur d'Alene, Id. The Vikings have won the first six titles.
