Vikings in 10th at Otter Invitational With Play Suspended

SEASIDE, Calif. The Western Washington University men’s golf team is in 10th place at the Otter Invitational with the second round suspended due to darkness.

The Vikings, and the rest of the 19-team field, will conclude the second round on Tuesday morning and then tee off for the final 18 holes of the final round.

The tournament is being played on the Blackhorse course of Bayonet & Blackhorse in Seaside, Calif., and hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay.

Senior Adam Barker (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula/Olympic College) led the Vikings in the morning round, shooting a 3-under-par 69 to tie for 4th place after the first 18 holes. Barker’s round included six birdies to tie for 3rd-most among the 104-player field in the first round. With two holes remaining in his second Round, Barker is 2-over-par, and sits unofficially in a tie for 8th place at 1-under-par for the tournament.

Junior Michael Butler (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) is tied for 39th (unofficially) firing a morning round of 5-over-par 77 and is +1 in the second round with one hole to play.

Teams will conclude the final holes of the second round with a shotgun start at 8 am tomorrow, and then continue onto the final round in the same pairings.

Unofficially UC San Diego and Colorado-Colorado Springs are tied for the tournament lead at +5, with tournament host Cal State Monterey Bay and Chico State one shot back at +6. Adam Navigato of UC San Diego holds a commanding lead in the tournament at 10-under-par with one hole remaining in the second round.
