GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Western Washington University's Craig Crawford (Sr., Stanwood/Highland Christian) fired a 6-under par 66 in the second round, the best of the day, and is tied for second in medalist play, one shot off the lead, after first-day action Monday at the Western New Mexico University Men's Golf Invitational Tournament being played at the Palm Valley Golf Club.

Tuesday's final round of the 20-team tourney begins at 7:30 a.m.

The Vikings are tied for third in the team standings at 578 with Cameron TX (286-292) after shooting rounds of 294 and 284. Nationally No.9-ranked Cal State Stanislaus leads at 8-under 568 (284-284) and No.10-rated and host WNMU is second, four shots behind, at 572 (282-290).

Crawford, making his first appearance for WWU since becoming academically eligible, shot an even par 72 to open the day. He then had six birdies and all the rest pars in the afternoon round.

"Craig had an absolutely phenomenal round," said WWU coach Luke Bennett. "It was as clean as can be. It's great having him back in the lineup."
