April 25, 2008
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University's Steve Card has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Committee. His four-year term begins Sept. 1.
Card is completing his 15th season as the Vikings' golf coach and 18th year as Associate Athletic Director in charge of business and financial affairs.
During his tenure, Western was made nine national appearances, including a school-record six straight from 1995 to 2000. During that stretch, the Vikings had a school-best fourth-place finish in 1997.
The 42-year-old Card currently serves as the Division II Director on the Golf Coaches of America Association National Advisory Board and becomes the DII All-Large Representative on that same board, a four-year appointment that begins in July.
Card spent four years on the GCAA All-America Selection Committee, including two as chair. He also played a major role in having Western selected as host of the NCAA DII Golf Championships in May of 2009 at the Loomis Trail Golf and Country Club.
