Strickland named Red Lion/GNAC Men's Golfer of the Week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University's Mark Strickland has been named Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for Sept. 23-29. Strickland, a sophomore from Mukilteo (graduate of Kamiak High School), shot a 7-under par 209 to lead the Vikings to victory at their own 41st Annual WWU Invitational. Strickland shot a 5-under 67, the best round of the tournament, then followed that up with rounds of 73 and 69 to finish one shot ahead of Josh Zhang of British Columbia and Mark Geddes of Grand Canyon. It was Strickland's first title as a collegian. WWU cruised to the team title, finishing 17 shots ahead of second-place British Columbia. The Vikings next compete at the Golfweek Invitational on Oct. 1-2 at Sunriver, Ore. |
