Sept. 1, 2012
BELMONT, Calif. - Western Washington University gave up two second half goals as it was blanked 2-0 by Notre Dame de Namur University on Saturday in a West Region men's soccer match-up at Koret Field. The Vikings, who opened their season with a 2-1 loss at nationally No.2-ranked Chico State, fell to 0-2-0 overall, while NDNU evened its record at 1-1-0. "This is a very good team that we were playing against and we have to continue to get better at things," said WWU coach Travis Connell. "We sustained a few injuries and hopefully we'll get people healthy for this coming week." NDNU's Armando Garcio dribbled through three defenders to score the game's first goal in the 50th minute. The Argonauts also scored in the 84th minute as Mikhail Wingate-Pearce found the net. NDNU had an 18-8 shot advantage. Goalkeeper Keegan Rogers (So., Portland, OR/Portland Christian) made five saves for the Vikings. WWU begins a four-game home stand Friday (7:30 p.m.), entertaining Hawaii Pacific University at Orca Field on the campus of Whatcom Community College.
