DENVER, Colo. - Western Washington University gave up four first-half goals as it fell 5-4 to Regis University in a non-league men's soccer contest Monday at the Regis Match Pitch.

The Vikings, who opened their three-game Colorado road trip Saturday with a 1-1 tie at UC-Colorado Springs, fell to 4-4-2. It was their first loss this season to a non-NCAA Division II Top 25-rated team.

Regis, which snapped a three-game losing streak, improved to 2-5-1 as it got a hat trick from Copeland Sterling.

The Rangers scored three times in the first 16 minutes, two of the goals by Sterling.

Western fought back to within one, 3-2, on goals by Matt Pele (Sr., Kennewick/Kamiakin) in the 17th minute and Kellan Brown (Fr., Tacoma/Bellarmine Prep) in the 31st minute, but a goal by Ben Buhler in the 40th minute gave Regis a 4-2 halftime lead.

The Vikings were again within one, 4-3, when Gibson Bardsley (So., Fall City/Mount Si) found the net in the 53rd minute. But Copeland headed in a goal four minutes later, and there was no more scoring after a goal by Western's Samir Vejo (Sr., Trebinje, Bosnia) in the 59th minute.

It was Vejo's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Regis had a 20-19 edge in shots and Western posted a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Vikings end their Colorado junket Wednesday (1 p.m.) with a contest at Colorado Christian University.
