Troy McCarty named Red Lion/GNAC Defensive Player of the Week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University defender Troy McCarty has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 8-14.

McCarty, a freshman from Snohomish (graduate of Snohomish High School), played 161 minutes of solid defense and scored a goal on the only shot he took as the Vikings split a pair of home games last week. They defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 2-1, and lost 1-0 to Hawaii Pacific.

WWU forward Andrew Weishaar (Sr., Puyallup), who has two goals and two assists in four games this season, received GNAC Offensive POW honorable mention.

WWU, 2-2-0 overall, begins GNAC play this week, traveling to Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, Sept. 19 (5 p.m.) and to Montana State Billings on Saturday, Sept. 21 (1:30 p.m.).
