Western's Scholze named GNAC co-Player of the Week
Sept. 29, 2003
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University men's soccer defender Justyn Scholze has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week for Sept. 21-27.
Scholze, a senior from Federal Way (Decatur High graduate), had an assist on Western's first goal in a 2-0 win over San Francisco State last Saturday and then made a critical defensive play to preserve the lead eight minutes later, clearing a shot by Gator midfielder Paul Carter off the goal line with an overhead kick.
Scholze, who has started all 11 games for the Vikings this season, also helped Western protect a late charge by defending NCAA II National Champion Sonoma State in a 2-1 win last Thursday. Western, which evened its record at 5-5-1, has won five straight games.
Scholze shared the Player of the Week honor with Seattle Pacific University defender Matt Laughlin.
The Vikings play Notre Dame de Namur University today at Blaine's Pipeline Complex (4 p.m.).
