Four Vikings Named to GNAC Academic Soccer Team

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men’s soccer team had four players honored for their commitment in the classroom by being named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

Juniors Stephen Jinneman (Redmond, WA) and Luke Olney (Enumclaw, WA), and sophomores Jose Castillo (Bellevue, WA/Interlake) and Garrett Strawn (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) were the four Vikings to earn conference academic honors.

To earn selection to the GNAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or better, be of sophomore standing or better and be in at least their second season of competition. Per conference rules, freshman, redshirt freshman and first-year transfers are not eligible.

Olney was selected to the team for the second consecutive season carrying a 3.39 cumulative grade point average as a business major.

The Vikings are 5-4-4 overall and 2-3-3 in GNAC play following last night’s 3-0 victory over Saint Martin’s. WWU returns to action next week with a pair of home matches against Northwest Nazarene (Oct. 27, 7 pm) and Montana State Billings (Oct. 29, 7 pm) at Harrington Field.
