BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University men’s soccer senior midfielder Eleazar Galvan has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for October 24-30.
Galvan (Chelan, WA/Skagit Valley College) scored a game-winning goal and assisted two goals in helping the Vikings record shutout wins over Northwest Nazarene and Montana State Billings last week. His 4 points tied for the GNAC lead during the week and over his last 5 games Galvan has posted 2 goals and 3 assists.
Against Northwest Nazarene last Thursday, Galvan’s pass set up freshman forward Christian Rotter (Auburn, WA/Auburn Mountainview) for a goal in the 70th minute to give the Vikings a lead in an eventual 2-0 victory.
In Saturday’s 2-0 win over Montana State Billings, Galvan gave Western Washington a lead in the 81st minute with a long, curling strike from well outside the 18-yard box to the upper-right corner of the net. Just over five minutes later, Galvan set up junior forward Anthony Dean (Amsterdam, The Netherlands/Bellevue College) to double the lead in the 86th minute.
The GNAC Player of the Week award was the first of Galvan’s career. He is the third Western Washington player to earn a weekly GNAC award this season, and the first to receive the offensive award, following junior goalkeeper Tyler Visten (Mount Vernon, WA/Skagit Valley College) and senior defender Brady Ulen (Coeur d’Alene, ID/Post Falls/North Idaho). Visten was the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 6 while Ulen earned the same honor on September 19.
The Vikings will host Simon Fraser on Thursday evening at 7 pm for Senior Night at Harrington Field before traveling to Concordia on Saturday to close out the GNAC schedule with a match at 4 pm.
