BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Guard Daesha Henderson had 13 points and seven steals, leading nationally ranked Seattle Pacific University to a 63-44 victory over Chico State University in final-day women's basketball action Monday at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference/California Collegiate Athletic Association Crossover Classic being held on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
Seattle Pacific, rated No.20 in the latest USA Today/ESPN/WBCA NCAA Division II Top 25, improved to 7-1 with the victory. Maddie Maloney, Melissa Reich and Rachel Murray each had 10 points for the Falcons, who beat Sonoma State, 59-51, in opening-day action Sunday.
Chico State slipped to 5-2 with its second consecutive loss. Forward Melissa Richardson led the Wildcats with a game-high 14 points.
The Falcons took control quickly, jumping to an 11-2 lead less than four minutes into the game as the Wildcats committed turnovers on four of their first six possessions. Seattle Pacific extended the lead with a run of seven straight points to open up a 24-9 advantage with 6:40 left in the first half and held a 33-18 lead at halftime.
The lead was never under 14 in the second half.
Chico State shot only 27.3 percent (18-of-66) from the field for the game, including a cold 24.1 percent (7-of-29) in the first half.
